How exciting to be a part of this ...
Put on by the Global Issues Unit of the US Embassy here in Delhi, and partially sponsored by the AWA, this morning was timed to celebrate Women's Empowerment Month (March, 2012) and brought a host of local NGOs to raise awareness for their efforts at empowering women.
I have a feeling that if these women -- who participated in this mela -- are concerned, they will figure out a way (somehow, some way) to see that women's empowerment will grow in some amazing ways in the coming years!

Was that Ingrid Betancourt? What did she say? I want to know more! :)
This is one area where I'm always perplexed at American attempts to lead on women's issues. All these American women on the podium, lecturing and advocating and holding themselves up as role models, and yet not one of them in a position to call the shots in their own country, to get elected to the presidency. Makes me wonder...whether American feminism gets diverted too much into international areas when the energy might be better used at home to do something more visible than running church charity groups and PTAs. Sorry for the rant, but having lived in the US for many years, I just see such a gap between the rhetoric of "empowerment" and what American women have actually achieved on the ground, politically.
Anamikaa, it was Herro Mustafa (although she does kind of look like Ingrid Betancourt!) Herro is amazing too though (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Herro_Mustafa)
Anonymous. I can understand where you're coming from and I would love to dedicate an entire post to this subject! It would be great fodder for discussion!
