PAYING ATTENTION

When you spend your entire life
listening

to the glare, blare and harshness of
horns, consistently

do you even pay attention
anymore?

*

if your life was in danger, with something
much bigger than you

hurtling towards you
bellowing its presence

would the roar of its impending nearness
even phase you?

Written after a close call with a street boy who was standing - all alone - in the middle of a VERY busy intersection, apparently unaware of the traffic whizzing by him.  Horns honking, blaring and screaming.  Yet he remained there, in that spot, without moving.

The moment sounds horribly scary, but the writing and thought is absolutely lovely.

Yes, good writing. Glad it was only a close call...
